I Am Wolf King
[..] Wolf King is at this point
a one man (me, Christo) studio band. I do the vocals, guitar, bass,
drum programming and recording/producing myself. The music is Goth
Rock for want of a better term. I am just striving to be as creative
and original as possible. I am influenced by bands like The Doors,
Danzig, Type O Negative, Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper and the Cult.
I do not aim to sound like any of them but they are definitely the
bands that have defined rock and roll to me since my very early
teen years. I got my first Alice Cooper album when i was 6 years
old, a friends older brother worshipped him and ofcourse my friend
and I thought his brother was the coolest dude on two legs so we
liked the Coop as well. I never turned back. I've always been a
hard rock fan and I probably always will be although there is little
in the current hard rock scene that i find interesting. Rap and
roll bands like Limp Bizcuit are just not for me.
-I've recently released a two-song demo CD titled, Symbols
of Freedom (the Demo's) on mp3.com
and hope to release a full length CD before the end of 2001. The
songs on the cd are called, "Dents
in Dust" (a dreamy Doorsish tune which is slated for play
at The Bear 100.3 FM in Edmonton in August) and "I
Am Wolf King" which is a very simple straight-forward power
chord rocker that clocks in just a little over 2 minutes.
(..) -Future Plans-
Wolf King will not be a one man band for long. A good friend of
mine, Rob who is a very talented guitarist/bassist will be joining
forces with me. Rob is a true guitarist, whereas i am just a guy
with a guitar. Rob will expand the limitations of the Wolf King
sound. The interesting part about Rob joining that ties in with
the benefits of n-Track is that Rob lives in Toronto, Ontario and
I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We are going to write songs with
each other while living over 2000miles apart. We will FTP ideas
in wave format to each other (both of us having NTRack) and basically
we'll do the drums first, then rob will lay down the guitar and
bass in toronto, send them to me via the internet, and i will lay
down the vocals and any additional guitars, effects etc.. in Halifax.
It is going to be an interesting project to say the least.
Also joining Wolf King are what i have decided to call, The Lycanthropes.
The Lycanthropes consists of anybody who is at my house when i am
recording and wants to chip in creatively to whatever song i am
currently working on. This could mean friend or family or someone
on the internet who email's me a cool sound effect (as long as it's
original!) The first Lycanthrope is slated to be a girl by the name
of Lara who is bringing her 12 string acoustic over to record the
intro for the next CD, she is a very talented player and i am looking
forward to it. Wolf King is ultimately about freedom, not revolutionary
freedom, but personal freedom. Being free, being happy; throwing
down the shackles that the corporate, religious and trendy-right-wing-media-lackey-world
tries to tie you down with.
Tips and Tricks from Wolf
King using n-Track Studio. |
(..)
Everything I record I use n-Track Studio exclusively;
it's idiot proof and the effects are unrivaled; well worth the
money. I use a Charvel guitar, a distortion pedal (about 100
years old), an old (real old) Flying V bass that i bought about
10 years ago for $50, a realistic mic and hammerhead drum machine
(which is Freeware). Given the equipment i was using (i don't
even use an amp, the guitar/mic go into the pedal and directly
into the soundcard) i did not expect anything I recorded to
sound this good. This LOUD. I had never done any real serious
recording before and i was shocked when i did the mixdown and
burned it onto a CD. NTrack made a hack like me sound professional.
The only problem i have is that there is a steady hum from the
pedal, the more distortion i use, the louder the hum but this
is a shortcoming of my equipment and not n-Track. I just can
not get over the sounds i am getting with this software, i am
a very technically inept person and i'm recording and mixing
songs in an afternoon with this stuff and it sounds 100 times
better than anything a person could do on a 4 track. There's
no comparison. |
