When:
That's Power, 2000
Tower Of Babel, 2001
Why:
That's Power is named for the bible verse 2
Tim 1:7 which says "For God did not give us a spirit of timidity,
but a spirit of power, of love, and of
self-discipline". This verse means that as believers in God, we're
not to sheepishly live our lives in obscurity. Instead, we're to boldly
tell people of God's love and forgiveness, and we're to live a life of
integrity. We do what we do because God has given us so much.. forgiven
us so much.. loved us so much. And we want others to see how wonderful
it is to know him personally.
What:
From acoustic ballads to screaming guitar leads and drums, That's Power
produces some of the freshest, most insightful music around.
In
Short: That's Power's songs are biblical in
nature and speak the truth boldly. We wouldn't have it any other way.
It is our hope that something in the lyrics helps you understand God a
bit better and to see your need for his love. Visit us at http://www.thatspower.org

[..] "Marc and I met in 1998 after I saw him perform at a coffeehouse.
I was immediately drawn to the passion in his music and talked to
him after the show. It quickly became obvious to us both that we
should work together. After several months of weekend performances;
we agreed this should become a long-term relationship, and that
a demo CD was the next step. I own an Ampex ½" 4-track
deck and had planned on using that to record our demo. But a friend
told me about this handy PC program that allowed multiple tracks.
It even had effect plug-ins like delay, verb, chorus, compression,
etc. It was this impressive list of effects that persuaded me to
check out n-Track Studio. After a very short demo, I was hooked.
N-Track is very easy to use, and the final product was far superior
to anything I'd done with my Ampex. By the time the demo CD was
recorded and burned, we had become acquainted with MP3.COM.
We uploaded a few songs, contacted friends and fans, and before
we knew it had a #5 song on MP3c's Christian Pop chart".

Tips and Tricks from That's
Power using n-Track Studio. |
[..] "Drums, strings, perc, etc. are programmed using
a Boss DR-5, then transferred (analog/stereo) into n-Track
Studio.
Marc plays a Dean electric guitar and a Daion acoustic. He
plugs the Daion directly into our Mackie mixer and plays the
Dean through a Peavey amp, which is mic'd, close proximity.
TJ plays an Ibanez bass and an Alvarez classical (hardly ever
at the same time. Both are plugged directly into the Mackie.
Recording is done flat, without effects, with the exception
of vocals which have slight compression added via an outboard
unit. Since we're just a duo, we seldom require more than
15 tracks. Because of this, we've never had to resort to rendering
sub-groups (prior to final mixing) for performance reasons.
But, we found that rendering just the harmony vocals together
tends to give them a tighter packed sound... not sure why.
We usually like harmonies heavily compressed and a subtle,
short reverb added. Guitars usually end up EQ'd brighter than
expected, 'cause we love that crunchy, chunka-chunka sound.
Usually, individual instruments are compressed (at various
levels and settings) for song rendering. Then, the new rendering
is re-rendered using soft-knee compression. We use Right-Click
MP3 for MP3 encoding. One note on sampling rate: my PC has
an SB Live, which operates natively at 48k. Performance improved
considerably once I made that settings change. Thanks to users
here on Fasoft's BB for that tip!"
